[Grade Level: 7th and 8th]  [Duration: 1 Trimester]  [Prerequisite: NONE]

STORY WRITING & PUBLISHING

Ben Franklin wrote:   "Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing."  In this class, we will strive to do both, and along the way gain practice reading and writing narratives, both fictional and personal.  We will learn how to tell a story by studying the most basic of narratives: the super-hero story.  Create your own super hero, then create a setting, side-kicks, villains, and a catchy plot.  How does it end?  You decide!  Then we’ll dig deeper into the writer’s craft: character studies, conflict, and plot development. As a final project, you'll publish the story of your choice:  novella, dramatic script, screenplay, epic poem, manga (graphic novel), or "choose-your-own-adventure" story.
