PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Welcome to First Avenue! The 2017-2018 school promises to be an exciting year. We are very fortunate to have a district that encourages educators to be creative and inspire students to pursue their interests and passions. Last year, First Avenue teachers collaborated across content areas to provide powerful learning experiences for our students. This focus on learning across curricular areas is a great indicator that our teachers are creatively working towards addressing literacy across content areas to make learning fun and relevant for our students. This year, we will continue to support these endeavors and creatively implement learning opportunities for them to imagine, inquire and inspire.

The program and traditions at First Avenue are indicative of the staff’s focus on middle school adolescent development, which is a time of transition for our youngsters. This means students need an environment that emphasizes positive behavioral, social and emotional development. Our staff makes it possible  for every child to experience the many electives offered, including opportunities for every student to excel in the performing arts (music and theater), industrial technology, home economics, fine arts, science and engineering, broadcast journalism, civics, leadership and digital discourse. First Avenue is unique in providing our students with such a quality well-rounded education with many choices, while making sure that the academics are top notch.

In order for students to have a more meaningful experience at First Avenue I strongly encourage students to take full advantage of the many opportunities to connect to school, which include clubs, our new makerspace area, middle school sports, music and theater performances, WEB, peer tutoring, and student council. Doing so will help students learn about responsibility, self-management,  and how to self-advocate, which are important life skills. Parents, we have partnered with PTSA to provide several opportunities for you to learn about adolescent  development. I invite you to attend these events, and/or volunteer your time and efforts to help us continue to maintain the incredible opportunities that exist at First Avenue. I look forward to working with you to help make middle school a great experience for your child and you. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance.

Go Spartans!

Imagine. Inquire. Inspire.
