EIGHTH GRADE CURRICULUM

Language Arts Curriculum

At First Avenue Middle School, the 8th-grade curriculum aligns closely with the California state standards to provide students with a strong literary foundation. Students are exposed to diverse texts, including short stories sourced from the Houghton-Mifflin text, covering topics such as theme and author's style for analysis and discussion. Novels such as "The Giver" by Lois Lowry and excerpts from "The Diary of Anne Frank" are used to allow students to expand their critical thinking skills.
